How it works
- Write the names, one per line.
- Choose the days and how many shifts each day needs.
- Click the cells to mark who is away.

What it does
Give it people and days and it hands back a matrix: people down the rows, days across the columns, a dot where there is a shift. With the per-person total at the end of the row.
Unavailabilities are marked by clicking a cell: you do not choose who works — the rota does that — you say who cannot. That is the difference between this and a spreadsheet.
How the fairness works
For every slot of every day it takes whoever has fewest shifts so far, skipping anyone unavailable and anyone already on that day. It is not an optimiser: it is the rule everyone recognises as fair and which can be explained in a sentence, which is worth more than an optimum nobody can check.
With no unavailabilities the difference between the most and the least is at most one. That is the only promise this tool makes, and it is proven.
With unavailabilities it can be more, and there is nothing to be done: whoever is rarely there does not catch up. So the tool prints the real spread and says why, instead of promising. Promising «at most one» and then showing three is worse than promising nothing.
What nobody can cover is visible
If a day needs three shifts and only two people are available, the third stays uncovered and appears on a row of its own. Disappearing in silence is the defect that sends somebody to the shop alone on a Saturday.
Regenerate
It only changes how ties break, not the rule. With four people and five days somebody gets two shifts: «regenerate» decides who, and everything else stays the same.
The split is deterministic — same seed, same matrix — so the same link and the same list give the same result twice.
What is not here
It knows nothing about holidays, contracts, hours, nights, public holidays, preferences or alternating-week rotas. It splits slots among people, and that it does well.
No saving: names and unavailabilities live in this page and disappear on reload. They are people’s names, and they do not go into an address or a key on the computer.
